Storm Stories
Real Stories from Real Customers
Our Storm Stories come from Florida homeowners who experienced Security First’s storm response firsthand. Watch their stories to see how we show up, storm after storm, year after year®.
Tallahassee Tornadoes
In May 2024, severe storms and multiple tornadoes tore through Tallahassee and northern Florida. The Security First Insurance team called customers in the hardest-hit areas before they reached out to us, deployed field adjusters within hours, and lined up First Choice Repair Network® contractors for everything from tree removal to temporary housing.
Barbara
A tornado tore through Barbara’s Tallahassee neighborhood. We called to check for damage and had crews clearing the trees off her roof within two days. She calls us the best insurance company in the state.
Bob
Bob’s Tallahassee rental took serious damage. A former Department of Insurance communications director, he knew good claim handling when he saw it, and within 24 hours, we had the property secured before the next storms hit.
Madalyn
A tornado hit Madalyn’s Tallahassee home before dawn. We stayed in such close contact through the claim that she jokes we checked in more than her own husband did.
Karin
Karin had lived in Tallahassee for barely a week when a tornado took down a tree on her new home. Newly insured with us, she filed online that morning and had tree removal scheduled within two days.
Evelyn
Evelyn has come through three Tallahassee storms with us. This time, we arranged a place for her to stay as soon as she called. As she puts it, there is security in Security First.
Greg | Security First Insurance
Security First Insurance Field Supervisor Greg walks through the Tallahassee response, from a customer’s downed tree to heavy damage downtown. His rule across every claim: if we insure you, we take care of you.
Hurricane Milton
Hurricane Milton came ashore near Siesta Key in October 2024, bringing destructive winds and toppling trees across the Tampa Bay region. Within hours of each report, we issued claim numbers, dispatched our team, and put First Choice Repair Network® contractors to work.
Rodger | St. Petersburg, FL
Milton sent Rodger’s beloved oak crashing onto his St. Petersburg home. He texted us that night and had a claim number by 8:40 the next morning. He calls working with us a dream.
Juana | Tampa, FL
A massive oak crashed through Juana’s Tampa roof during Milton while she and her children sheltered inside. A customer of ten years, she filed a claim the next morning, and her tree was cleared while her neighbor’s still sat on the house.
Darren | Bradenton, FL
Darren calls Milton one of the worst storms his Bradenton hometown has ever seen. With the power out, he filed a claim from his phone and had roofers out two days later. He calls it a life-changing experience in terms of insurance.
Senator Boyd | Manatee County, FL
Speaking from our Mobile Storm Response Center in Manatee, State Senator Jim Boyd describes a community torn up by Milton but resilient. He credits our quick response with helping residents get their lives back in order.
Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend in September 2024, hitting communities like Perry and Steinhatchee that were still recovering from earlier storms. We mobilized at dawn, set up Mobile Storm Response Centers in affected areas, and guided policyholders through the claims process.
Dana | Perry, FL
Dana’s home faced its third hurricane in 13 months, with nine trees down and winds past 140 mph. Our adjuster kept in close contact, and our President and CEO were on site to review her damage in person.
Brittany | Perry, FL
Three days after Helene, our President and CEO visited in person to check on residents. Having also weathered Hurricanes Idalia and Debby, Brittany says that kind of presence means the world in a small town.
Richard and Marcella | Steinhatchee, FL
Richard and Marcella came home to a devastated Steinhatchee property, with flooding that lifted whole structures off the ground. Security First Insurance reached out before and after the storm to be sure they were safe and had somewhere to go.
Security First Insurance | Mobile Storm Response Center
After Helene, our emergency response team set up mobile claims locations across Florida, from Tallahassee to St. Petersburg. Team members met customers in person to start claims, arrange tarping and tree removal, and connect customers with resources.
